Enigma: Throne & Liberty's Staff + Orb Build

Staff + Orb · build guide · updated Aug 2026

The short version
Two magic weapons on one stat — the cleanest ranged build in the game to gear.

The Enigma is what happens when both of your weapons want the same thing. Staff and Orb both scale off Wisdom, which means every point you invest works twice — a luxury almost no other pairing gets. You get elemental artillery from the Staff and area denial from the Orb's placed spheres, and the result is a ranged controller that dominates ground it has had time to prepare.

The mage build with no stat compromise anywhere. Here's what it does well and the one thing that will kill you.

What the build is

The Staff is Throne and Liberty's elemental artillery — Ice Spear and Icebound Tomb to freeze targets in place, Serial Fire Bombs and Inferno Wave to cover ground, Chain Lightning and Judgment Lightning for multi-target damage, Infernal Meteor for the big hit, with passives like Mana Amp, Frost Master and Flame Condensation. The Orb, from the New Wave update, places up to three summoned spheres at roughly 12m that can barrier allies, deny an advance, or detonate on command. Both weapons scale off Wisdom, which governs mana, cooldown speed and buff duration — so a single stat drives your damage, your uptime and your utility together.

Why players run it

How to play it

Role
Ranged magic DPS — elemental artillery with area denial
Stat priority
Wisdom overwhelmingly first — it drives damage, mana, cooldown speed and buff duration for both weapons. Perception second for hit chance; Strength only to a survivable health floor
Key skills & passives
Staff: Ice Spear, Icebound Tomb, Serial Fire Bombs, Chain Lightning, Judgment Lightning, Infernal Meteor · passives Mana Amp, Frost Master. Orb: three placed spheres for barriers, denial and triggered burst
Core loop
Place spheres to shape the approach → Icebound Tomb to lock → Serial Fire Bombs / Chain Lightning on the held target → trigger spheres on anyone who closes

Play the ground, not the target. Both of your weapons are about making space expensive — Staff spells cover it in fire and ice, Orb spheres deny it outright — so the winning pattern is to decide where you want enemies to not be, and then make that true before they arrive. Wisdom is close to the only stat that matters, which makes gearing refreshingly simple; take Perception second so your spells land against geared opponents and enough Strength that a single hit doesn't end you. The failure mode is the obvious one and it is worth stating plainly: you have cloth armour and no escape. If a melee build reaches you, barriers buy seconds, not a fight. Positioning is the entire defensive plan.

The honest trade-off

✓ Why to run it

  • The cleanest stat sheet of any pairing — one stat does everything.
  • Genuine area denial, not just area damage.
  • Outstanding in PvE and in any fight with a chokepoint.
  • Orb barriers meaningfully offset the mage's fragility.

△ Honest caveats

  • No escape tool — once something reaches you, options run out fast.
  • Lowest health pool of the Orb pairings.
  • Depends on setup time; ambushes catch it flat.
  • Cast times mean mobile targets are frustrating to pin down.

Quick answers

Is the Enigma good in Throne and Liberty?

Yes, especially in PvE and in fights with chokepoints. Both weapons scale off Wisdom, so it gears more cleanly than any other pairing, and its area control is among the best in the game.

What stats should an Enigma prioritize?

Wisdom, overwhelmingly — it drives damage, mana, cooldown speed and buff duration for both the Staff and the Orb. Perception second for hit chance, Strength only to a survivable floor.

What is the build's main weakness?

No escape. It's a cloth-armour build with no mobility skill, so a melee attacker that closes the gap is a genuine problem. Positioning is the entire defence.

Is it good for solo play?

Reasonable — area damage clears packs efficiently, but a bad pull with nothing to disengage with can end a run quickly.
