Scout: Throne & Liberty's Longbow + Crossbow Build

Longbow + Crossbow · build guide · updated Aug 2026

The short version
Two ranged weapons on the same stat — maximum damage from maximum distance.

The Scout commits entirely. Both the Longbow and the Crossbow scale off Dexterity and Perception, so nothing you invest is wasted, and you get the Longbow's enormous single hit alongside the Crossbow's sustained fire and mobility. It has no melee option whatsoever — which is either the cleanest build on this site or a liability, depending entirely on your positioning.

The purest ranged build in the game. Here's what full commitment buys you, and what it costs.

What the build is

The Longbow is the sniper — Strafing and Brutal Arrow for poke, Ensnaring Arrow to slow, and Steady Aim into Decisive Sniping for the largest ranged hit in the game. The Crossbow is the machine gun — Quick Fire, Rapid Shot and Merciless Barrage for fast sustained damage, Mortal Mark and Detonation Mark to set up, Nimble Leap and Wind Snatcher to reposition. Both scale off Dexterity and Perception, which is unusual and valuable: unlike almost every other hybrid on this site, the Scout has no stat conflict at all. Every point improves both weapons.

Why players run it

How to play it

Role
Ranged DPS — sniper burst plus sustained bolt damage
Stat priority
Dexterity first for crit rate and evasion, Perception second for hit chance — both weapons use both. Strength only to a survivable floor, Wisdom lowest
Key skills & passives
Longbow: Strafing, Brutal Arrow, Ensnaring Arrow, Steady Aim, Decisive Sniping. Crossbow: Quick Fire, Rapid Shot, Merciless Barrage, Mortal Mark, Nimble Leap · passives Eagle Vision, Ambidexterity
Core loop
Steady Aim → Decisive Sniping to open → Quick Fire / Rapid Shot to sustain → Ensnaring Arrow on anyone closing → Nimble Leap out

Gear Dexterity and Perception and stop thinking about stats — that simplicity is genuinely the build's biggest advantage, and it means your gear progression is faster and cleaner than any hybrid's. Everything else is positioning. You have two tools for controlling distance, Ensnaring Arrow to slow the approach and Nimble Leap to break it, and your survival is entirely a question of using them early rather than as a last resort. Open with the Longbow's big shot at maximum range, transition to Crossbow sustain as they close, and be honest about the failure state: if someone reaches you, you have no answer at all. This build wins by never letting the question be asked.

The honest trade-off

✓ Why to run it

  • Cleanest gearing of any two-weapon build — no stat conflict at all.
  • Combines the biggest single hit with the best sustained ranged damage.
  • Two independent tools for controlling distance.
  • Simple to learn, and gear progression is fast.

△ Honest caveats

  • Zero melee capability — if you're reached, you lose.
  • Low health pool and no defensive cooldowns.
  • Contributes less in tight sieges where distance is unavailable.
  • Entirely positioning-dependent; a single mistake ends fights.

Quick answers

Is the Scout good in Throne and Liberty?

Yes, if your positioning is good. Both weapons share the same stats, so it gears exceptionally cleanly and delivers strong ranged damage — but it has no answer at all in melee.

What stats should a Scout prioritize?

Dexterity and Perception, and essentially nothing else. Both weapons use both stats, which makes this one of the simplest builds in the game to gear.

What's the main weakness?

No melee capability whatsoever. It has a low health pool and no defensive cooldowns, so anything that closes the distance wins.

Is it beginner-friendly?

The gearing is very beginner-friendly. The playstyle is less so — it punishes positional mistakes harder than almost any other build.
